This Iconic Pacific Coast Resort Just Reopened as Something Completely Different — With Plunge Pools and Mezcal Tastings
The Westin Playa Vallarta has reopened as Westin first all-inclusive resort in Mexico, featuring biophilic design, private plunge pools, and adults-only swim-up suites.
Westin has officially entered the all-inclusive game in Mexico. The Westin Playa Vallarta, an All-Inclusive Resort, reopened on May 5 in Puerto Vallarta following a full-scale renovation that transformed the property from a traditional hotel into Westin first all-inclusive concept in the country.
The newly reimagined resort sits on a 300-palm beachfront along the Pacific coast and was designed by acclaimed Mexican architecture firm Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos. The redesign leans heavily into biophilic principles, weaving natural materials and greenery throughout the property to blur the line between indoors and out.
Room options now include private plunge pool suites and adults-only swim-up rooms — a notable departure from the brand traditionally buttoned-up image. Several dining venues round out the all-inclusive offering, with mezcal tastings and locally inspired cuisine anchoring the food and beverage program.
The opening is part of Marriott broader push into the all-inclusive segment, which has accelerated over the past two years. Marriott now operates all-inclusive properties under multiple brand umbrellas, and the Westin conversion signals the company confidence that upscale travelers want the ease of all-inclusive pricing paired with the polish of a lifestyle brand.
For Puerto Vallarta, the reopening adds another high-end option to a destination that has increasingly positioned itself as a serious competitor to the Caribbean coast. The property is expected to draw both couples and families looking for a Pacific alternative to the Riviera Maya corridor.
