This Caribbean Island Keeps Opening Hotels — the Latest Two Include a Dedicated Rum Room

Barbados has two more hotels open, extending one of the Caribbean's most active runs of openings, reopenings, and renovations. Together the Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados and the Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club add roughly 160 rooms and suites across two very different corners of the island.

The 132-room Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados sits in Hastings on the south coast. Two plunge pools share a rooftop with 270-degree views, and the property runs five bars, including a dedicated Rum Room. On the birthplace of rum, that is a pointed choice: rather than parking the spirit behind a lobby bar, the hotel builds tastings and pairings into the experience.

On the west coast, the 28-suite Blue Monkey Hotel & Beach Club takes the opposite approach, trading scale for intimacy with its own private beach club on one of the island's signature stretches of sand. It welcomed its first guests ahead of an official opening in late July.

The two additions land in the middle of a broader building wave. Barbados has also seen Marriott all-inclusive arrivals along the Platinum Coast and a string of reopenings across the island, as it leans into higher-value travelers and a wider mix of room types. For visitors, the practical upshot is more choice on both coasts, from compact boutique stays to design-led hotels with the kind of rooftop-and-rum details that Barbados is increasingly built around.
