The pirate ship isn't a decoration — it's a working two-story restaurant complex. Decameron Galeon's galleon replica houses both Rococo (seafood, ground level) and Panasiático (Asian, upper deck with live cooking shows), and it's the single feature that distinguishes this 244-room property from other mid-tier all-inclusives in Santa Marta. The resort sits directly on Pozos Colorados Beach, backed by Sierra Nevada foothills — a combination of flat calm water and mountain backdrop that's unusual on the Colombian coast.
This property works well for Colombian families, budget-conscious international travelers, and anyone using Santa Marta as a base for Tayrona National Park day trips. It is not for travelers expecting contemporary design: rooms are functional but dated, the fitness center hours are limited (8 AM–5 PM), and the spa offering is thin — essentially one massage room in the villa area. Guests who prioritize room quality or a quiet adults-only atmosphere should look elsewhere.
The honest drawback is the à la carte dinner reservation system. With only four specialty restaurants serving approximately 244 rooms and reservations required for each, competition for peak-evening slots is real. Guests who arrive without planning their dinner reservations for the week often end up at the Wayuu buffet by default. The buffet is well-regarded, but it defeats the purpose of having specialty options included in the rate.
Practical context: 244 rooms split across a semi-circular tower and 10 villa buildings. Standard rooms run around 161 sq ft and tower rooms include balconies; villas at 388 sq ft offer more space without views. Suites top out at 495 sq ft with sea or mountain views. All-inclusive covers meals at all venues, national-brand alcohol, non-motorized water sports (kayak, catamaran, water bikes, snorkel gear), daily activities, and nightly entertainment. The property is a 3-star by classification and priced accordingly — typically one of the most affordable all-inclusive options on this stretch of Colombian coast. Simón Bolívar Airport (SMR) is 3–8 km away, a 10–15 minute taxi ride.
High season in Santa Marta runs December through January and during Semana Santa (Holy Week). The shoulder months of May through June and September through October offer lower rates and thinner crowds without sacrificing weather — the Sierra Nevada creates a drier microclimate here than on other parts of the Caribbean coast. Tayrona National Park requires advance entry reservations and a yellow fever vaccination; the resort's Decameron Explorer desk in the lobby can help arrange the transfer.
