Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula, a towering beachfront all-inclusive in the heart of Cancun's hotel zone, has reopened following a renovation that took it offline for much of the spring and summer. The project began on April 6 and wrapped in time for a July 25 return, bringing the high-rise back into the Riu Hotels & Resorts lineup refreshed for the peak winter season.
The reopening is part of a bigger pattern for Riu in the region. The Spanish operator has been steadily closing and updating its older Mexico properties, having taken multiple all-inclusives near Cancun offline earlier in 2026 for renovation work. The strategy keeps its densest cluster of resorts current without pulling the entire portfolio out of service at once.
Riu operates one of the largest all-inclusive footprints in Cancun, with beachfront neighbors including Riu Palace Las Americas, Riu Cancun, and Riu Palace Kukulkan lining the same stretch of sand. Rolling renovations across that group let the brand keep pace with a hotel zone that has seen waves of new construction and high-end competition.
For travelers, the timing matters: a freshly renovated Palace-tier Riu comes back online just as booking windows open for the busy Cancun winter, giving returning guests an updated option on one of Mexico's most in-demand beaches.
