Hotel Riu Cancun converted to adults-only in December 2024, which sharpened an identity it already had organically: loud, social, high-volume, and oriented toward having fun rather than unwinding. The Riu Party at the adjacent Hotel Riu Caribe runs multiple times a week with included transportation and entry — that arrangement is the best argument for staying here over a quieter competitor at a similar price. The 960 sq m main pool and the infinity swim-up pool handle the daytime crowd reasonably well, and the nightly Pacha discotheque entry and drinks are included, which is genuinely unusual for an all-inclusive at this tier.
This resort works for couples, friend groups, and solo travelers who want a lively, social vacation in Cancun's Hotel Zone. It is not for guests prioritizing quiet, seclusion, or culinary ambition. The buffet has received mixed reviews for consistency — some guests report excellent variety, others note uneven freshness. The specialty restaurants are better, though formal dress codes apply in the evening.
A recurring pain point: sun lounger reservation culture is embedded here. Towels claim chairs from early morning and this is not policed. Plan to be poolside by 8am in high season or redirect to the beach instead, which is white sand, turquoise water, and does not carry the same territorial dynamic.
Practically: 569 rooms renovated in 2014 (a $30M project), about 25 minutes from Cancun International Airport (CUN). The all-inclusive is 24-hour with room minibars and liquor dispensers included. Price lands in the mid-range for Cancun Hotel Zone — you're paying for location and access to the Riu ecosystem, not for luxury finishes.
