Riu Palace Mexico Reopens Adults-Only With 30 Private-Pool Elite Club Rooms
Riu Palace Mexico reopened Sept. 19 in Playacar as adults-only after a full reno, adding Elite Club rooms, nine restaurants, and five pools.
Hotel Riu Palace Mexico reopened Sept. 19, 2026, in Playacar after a complete renovation that turned RIU's first Mexican Palace hotel into an adults-only all-inclusive. Riu Hotels & Resorts confirmed the 434-room beachfront property now limits stays to guests 18 and over, with redesigned rooms, five pools, and a new Elite Club tier that includes 30 private-pool rooms.
What changed for guests after the renovation
RIU refurbished guestrooms with softer tones, natural wood finishes, warm lighting, and larger living areas that open to terraces or balconies. Five swimming pools are spread across the grounds. The bigger booking decision is Elite Club: 56 higher-category rooms sit in that tier, and 30 of them come with private pools.
Elite Club guests get a separate check-in, premium beverages, à la carte breakfast, a dedicated dinner restaurant, and an exclusive infinity pool with its own bar. If you usually upgrade for quieter pools and better in-room outdoor space, those 30 private-pool keys are the practical reason to pay the step-up rather than stay in a standard renovated room.
Dining and nightlife without leaving Playacar
The food program now lists nine restaurants, including the international buffet Don Julián, Asian-inspired Miyagi, Italian La Dolce Vita, gourmet Krystal, a steakhouse, poolside Guacamole, Tiki Taco, Pepe's Grill, and the Elite Club restaurant. Six bars cover the lobby Cubano bar, Capuchino patisserie, a 24-hour sports bar, plaza bar, swim-up Tequila bar, and the Elite Club bar.
Stays still include access to themed RIU Party events at neighboring Hotel Riu Tequila, so the adults-only shift does not cut guests off from the brand's evening entertainment next door. For couples who want a quieter room product by day and the option to walk to a bigger party scene at night, that adjacency is a guest-first detail most press releases bury.
How this fits RIU's Quintana Roo upgrade wave
The Playacar reopening follows the recent refresh of Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun and comes ahead of the planned Riu Palace Quintana Roo in Costa Mujeres. RIU now runs 15 of its 23 Mexican hotels in Quintana Roo, and the company is pushing Elite Club and private-pool inventory across flagship Palace assets rather than only building new sites.
