This Design-Forward Hotel Brand Is Opening Its First All-Inclusive Ever — in a Cancun Tower Barely Three Years Old
A lifestyle name known for rooftop bars and nightlife is entering the all-inclusive world for the first time, taking over a recent Cancun opening and reimagining it top to bottom.
Mondrian, the lifestyle brand known for design-driven hotels in Miami Beach, Los Angeles, Ibiza and Seoul, is opening its first all-inclusive resort anywhere in the world — and it's doing it in Cancun. On August 19, the former Hyatt Vivid Grand Island, which only opened in 2023, reopens as Mondrian Cancun All Inclusive. Reservations are already live.
Rather than build from scratch, Mondrian is reimagining an existing property that rises as a contemporary tower between the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte Lagoon, about 15 minutes from Cancun's airport. Food and drink anchor the reinvention: 10 restaurants and six bars, including Mexican concept Cuyo, Japanese venue Niko, and Allegra, a rooftop space the company bills as home to Cancun's longest rooftop infinity pool. A premium tier called Mondrian+ adds top-floor suites, butler service and a private check-in lounge, while the resort's beach experience happens off-site at Bungalow Beach Club, reached by complimentary shuttle.
The August debut is only phase one. A spa, an enhanced fitness center, a teens club, a signature steakhouse and a Cuban-inspired sunset bar are due later in the year, alongside a separate branded residential project adding 328 units overlooking the lagoon.
Mondrian is the latest lifestyle name to decide that all-inclusive is worth the leap. SLS broke ground on the idea with SLS Playa Mujeres, and W Hotels followed with its first all-inclusive in Punta Cana. What's driving the shift is a changed guest: today's luxury all-inclusive travelers want destination restaurants, cocktail programs and rooftop scenes, not just unlimited buffets — exactly the territory these brands were built for. Introductory rates at the Mondrian run around $322 a night.
