Beautiful Beach and Pools
Guests consistently rave about the pristine white sand beach and clear waters, along with the vibrant and clean pool areas, appreciating the thoughtful separation of adult and family spaces.
Potential Trip Hazards
The architectural design features numerous 2-3 inch drop-offs and uneven surfaces, posing a significant risk of stumbling or falling, especially for guests with mobility challenges.
Strong Scents & Allergies
The prevalent use of strong fragrances in cleaning products or as ambient hotel scents can be problematic for guests with sensitivities or allergies.
Unheated Jacuzzis & Warm Pools
Guests expecting refreshing dips or warm soaks may be disappointed by unheated jacuzzis and sometimes overly warm pool temperatures, even in the adults-only area.
Inconsistent Pool Service & Wayfinding
Reports of poor or non-existent wait service at the adults-only pool, coupled with challenging bathroom wayfinding due to unclear signage, indicate areas for improvement in guest convenience.

SLS Playa Mujeres is the first all-inclusive property in the SLS hotel brand's portfolio and carries that launch energy — the design is sharp, the dining lineup is unusually strong for an all-inclusive (18 venues), and the property is positioned as a step above the typical Cancun package resort. Opening in November 2024 means it's among the newest large properties in Mexico.
The location in Playa Mujeres — a private development zone north of Cancun City — is both an advantage and a drawback. Advantage: the beach at Playa Mujeres is significantly less trafficked than Cancun's Hotel Zone or Riviera Maya, and the area has better-preserved sand quality. Disadvantage: you're 35–55 minutes from Cancun Airport, and there's minimal off-property walking. This is a resort where you stay in the resort. Nearby Isla Mujeres is accessible by ferry and worth a day trip.
The Kosher dining program (Liora) is an unusual inclusion that makes SLS Playa Mujeres a meaningful option for Jewish families or guests with kosher dietary requirements who typically have limited all-inclusive choices. The two adults-only pools (Twiggy and Privilege) give couples dedicated quiet space away from the family areas. The Outdoor Adventure Course and Muscle Beach Gym reflect the SLS lifestyle brand DNA — the fitness emphasis is more pronounced than at the typical Royalton or Sandals.
The honest caveat for a resort that opened in late 2024: early-months operational teething is real. Staff ratios may be in flux, some dining concepts may still be refining menus, and the amenities ecosystem is still establishing its rhythm. First-year resort reviews often swing between effusive and disappointed. What's not in question is the physical product — the design is modern and the beach is excellent. Couples and design-conscious families who value aesthetics and dining variety over pure entertainment programming will find SLS Playa Mujeres a genuinely different option in the Cancun market.
