This New Cancun Beach Resort Skipped the Hotel Zone — and Loaded Up on 14 Restaurants

Hyatt has opened its most ambitious Cancun property to date, and it deliberately sits outside the strip most visitors know. The Grand Hyatt Cancun Beach Resort debuts in Puerto Cancun, the waterfront marina district wedged between downtown and the Hotel Zone, trading the wall-to-wall towers of the beachfront corridor for a quieter, marina-facing setting.

The resort runs 500 rooms and suites, 28 of them with private plunge pools, topped by a sprawling Presidential Suite. Rates start around $370 a night, and the property runs on the World of Hyatt program rather than an all-inclusive model, letting guests earn and redeem points on their stays.

Dining is the headline. Fourteen restaurants and mixology lounges anchor the resort, several built around name chefs: French cooking from Thierry Blouet at Bistrot Cigalette, elevated Mexican street food from Javier Plascencia at Fiera Tacos, Northern Italian at Quattro, charcoal-grilled steak at Chacho, and an omakase sushi counter at Fiera San. A spa, fitness center, multiple pools, beach club access and children's programming fill out the rest.

The opening deepens Hyatt's already heavy footprint in the city. Travelers who prefer everything bundled into one price still have the company's all-inclusive options nearby, including Hyatt Ziva Cancun and the adults-only Hyatt Zilara Cancun, both part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection. The Grand Hyatt aims at a different guest — one who wants a full-service luxury base with marina access and a serious restaurant lineup.

Reservations are open now for stays beginning in mid-November, positioning the resort for the winter high season in Mexico.
