The beach is the reason to choose Hyatt Zilara Cancun over its Hotel Zone neighbors. The resort sits on the widest stretch of sand in the zona hotelera — a meaningful distinction when the beach at a competing property two doors down is barely wide enough for two rows of chairs at high tide. Add dedicated beach butlers who circulate with cold drinks and sunscreen, and the outdoor experience consistently outperforms resorts charging similar rates.
This is the right resort for adult couples who want a calm, upscale environment without the spring-break energy common elsewhere in Cancun. The adults-only (18+) policy is genuine and enforced, which changes the entire atmosphere at the pools and beach. Solo travelers comfortable with couples-dominated resorts also report positive experiences. Families with any children should look elsewhere — this is not negotiable.
The most consistent criticism in guest reviews concerns inconsistency: a meal at Maria Marie might be excellent on Tuesday and noticeably mediocre on Thursday. The gourmet buffet at Spice draws particular complaints about variety declining after the first couple of nights. The resort's own best dining option — Chef's Plate, a 14-seat tasting menu experience — is only complimentary for Oceanfront Luxury Suite guests and above; everyone else pays extra, which some guests find frustrating given the all-inclusive premium.
The resort has 310 suites across eight categories, all at least 653 sq. ft. — there are no standard hotel rooms here. Entry-level Junior Suites are the smallest and may face pool or partial-resort views rather than ocean. The all-inclusive rate covers dining at five of the six restaurants (Chef's Plate excluded for most suite levels), unlimited beverages at five bars, non-motorized water sports, and most daytime activities. Cancun International Airport is 20-22 km away, a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic. The resort underwent a full-property renovation closing April 2025 through approximately April 2026, so confirm operating dates before booking.
For comparison shopping: Hyatt Zilara occupies the upper-mid tier of Cancun all-inclusives — above Hard Rock and Riu properties, roughly equivalent to the Excellence Playa Mujeres (though that property is farther north and family-friendly), and below the ultra-premium Le Blanc. The renovation, once complete, should address the room-condition complaints that accumulated in the two years prior to closure.
