Riviera Maya (between Cancún and Playa del Carmen), Mexico
The activities roster is wide but the structure is consistent Iberostar: a daily program run by the Star Friends entertainment team, non-motorized water sports off the beach (kayaking, catamaran, windsurfing first hour included), land sports available without reservation. The Star Camp kids' club runs 10 AM–5 PM across four age brackets. Evening shows are professional-grade and consistently well-reviewed. PADI diving through Dressel Divers on the beach is extra. The Iberostar Playa Paraíso Golf Club (18-hole, P. B. Dye design) is adjacent — discounted rates for resort guests.
Stretches over 3,280 feet and is shared with Iberostar Waves Paraíso Beach next door. The size means it never feels packed even when the resort is full. The hot tub hidden behind the waterfall feature is worth finding. Loungers along the edges fill by mid-morning at peak occupancy.
Where aqua aerobics and organized pool games happen. The animation team uses this pool for their daytime programming, so it can be noisy mid-morning and early afternoon. Less ideal for casual swimming during those hours.
Separate from the main pool system, with slides and a pirate ship structure. Shallow throughout. A dedicated parents' seating section nearby makes supervision practical.
Adults gravitate here during the afternoon. The swim-up bar is convenient; the drinks complaints (watered-down) are most commonly associated with this pool. See tips for how to handle this.
Blue Flag certified, white sand, turquoise water — the designation is accurate and genuinely maintained. The beach is wide enough that it doesn't feel crowded. Rocky sections exist in the water: water shoes are strongly recommended for swimming, not just wading. Seasonal sargassum seaweed is possible April–September; check conditions before booking if this matters. Non-motorized water sports launch from this beach.
Complimentary single and double kayaks from the beach. Good for calm-morning paddling; conditions on the Caribbean side are usually manageable. No advance sign-up needed, first-come basis.
Hobie Cat-style catamarans from the beach, included. Popular with guests who know how to sail; the staff will give basic orientation to newcomers. Limited units, go early.
Equipment included, use directly off the beach. The reef structure near Playa Paraíso offers reasonable snorkeling — not comparable to cenote diving but accessible and free.
First hour included; additional time at extra charge. Worth trying on this stretch of coast where conditions are reasonably predictable.
Courts available for self-organized play, no extra charge for access. Lessons with a coach are extra.
Outdoor court, walk-in, included. Standard resort amenity.
Organized games run by the animation team, typically mid-morning. The team is praised in reviews for keeping energy levels up without being pushy.
Supervised by the entertainment team, included. Intermittently scheduled rather than continuous — check the daily program board.
Supervised sessions, included. Same scheduling note as target shooting: check the daily board.
Tables available throughout the day, no sign-up needed.
Available in the games area, included.
Full gym, included for guests 16+. Cardio machines, free weights. Open daily.

Four groups: Kangaroo (0–3, adult required), Monkey (4–6), Dolphin (7–12), Eagles (13–15). Runs 10 AM–5 PM daily. Consistently praised for age-appropriate programming and engaged staff. Drop-off for the 4+ groups.
Full daytime schedule of games, competitions, and activities around the resort. The Star Friends team is frequently cited as a standout element in reviews.
Professional evening shows at the main theater. Quality varies by night but is generally well above the resort-entertainment average. The theater fills, so arrive 15 minutes early for good seats.
Galaxy Nightclub (18+) opens after the evening shows. Separate entrance in the shopping complex.
Available in the entertainment zone.
Extra charge. Dressel Divers operates from the beach — a reputable PADI operation. Cenote dive trips are a popular add-on given the Riviera Maya's cenote network. Book directly with them rather than through the resort desk for better pricing.
Extra charge. Worth booking if you play regularly; the courts are in good condition.
Extra charge at discounted guest rates. P. B. Dye-designed 18-hole course on the complex grounds. Greens fees are reduced for resort guests — ask at the concierge desk.
Extra charge through Dressel Divers. Cozumel day trip is the premium option; cenote dives are more accessible for casual divers.
