Exceptional Staff
Guests consistently laud the resort staff for their incredible friendliness, helpfulness, and genuine commitment to ensuring a satisfying stay for all.
Beautiful Grounds & Wildlife
The resort's meticulously maintained tropical gardens are a major highlight, enchanting guests with lush scenery and abundant wildlife like coatis, flamingos, and peacocks.
Diverse Dining & Cleanliness
The food quality and variety, particularly the breakfast buffet, receive high praise. Additionally, the entire property, including rooms and common areas, is consistently noted for its immaculate cleanliness.
Expansive Pool Areas
The large, winding pool areas, including one of the Mayan Riviera's longest shared pools, provide an inviting ambiance for relaxation and activities.
Family-Friendly Entertainment
The resort offers a lively atmosphere with engaging daily and nightly entertainment, activities, and professional shows that appeal to both children and adults.
Timeshare Sales Pressure
A common complaint revolves around persistent and aggressive membership/timeshare sales pitches that can detract from the relaxing vacation experience.
Weak Drinks & Dining Reservations
Guests frequently note inconsistencies with the strength of alcoholic beverages. Securing reservations for à la carte dinners can also be challenging due to limited availability.
Dated Rooms & Resort Size
While comfortable, some guests find the room decor slightly dated. The resort's large footprint means significant walking, necessitating use of shuttle services.
Rocky Beach Areas
The otherwise beautiful beach has areas with rocks, prompting many guests to recommend bringing water shoes for swimming in the ocean.

The wildlife is what you notice first at Iberostar Paraíso del Mar: coatis trotting across paths, flamingos in the gardens, peacocks fanning out near the pool. The Mexican colonial architecture is handsome, but it's the living landscape that genuinely distinguishes this property from the concrete-block resorts clustered further north along the Riviera Maya. The gardens are substantial and genuinely maintained, not decorative.
This resort fits families who want a resort that doesn't feel like a theme park — the kids' club (Star Camp) is well-organized, running four age brackets from toddlers through teenagers, but the grounds feel tropical rather than manufactured. Couples looking for a quiet, adults-only atmosphere will be disappointed; this place hums with activity and children throughout the day. The 388 rooms and the shared complex infrastructure mean you are rarely alone at peak season.
The most consistent complaint in guest reviews is the specialty restaurant reservation system. With five à la carte dinners requiring reservations and availability often gone within hours of check-in, many guests spend multiple evenings at the buffet by default. The workaround — showing up at the restaurant door to ask about walk-in slots — actually works, but it shouldn't be necessary at this price point. Also worth knowing: the pool bars are frequently cited for watered-down drinks; asking for a "shot on the side" is a well-documented local fix.
Practically speaking: 388 rooms, all-inclusive from the outset (meals, drinks, non-motorized water sports). Located 36–38 km from Cancún International Airport (CUN), a 30–40 minute transfer. The resort is part of the larger Iberostar Paraíso Complex, meaning guests can access amenities at the adjacent Paraíso Beach property. Spa Sensations has 28 treatment rooms and a saltwater hydrotherapy pool (USD 35, free if you book a treatment). Beach is Blue Flag certified; wear water shoes in the ocean — rocky sections exist.
Best booking tip: the Iberostar Paraíso Golf Club (P. B. Dye design, 18 holes) is on-site and available at discounted rates for resort guests. For comparison shoppers, the neighboring Iberostar Paraíso Beach offers a busier, more party-forward atmosphere with the same shared pool.
