Marriott International has officially closed its joint venture deal with the Leali family, founders of Italian luxury wellness brand Lefay, bringing the brand into its global portfolio. The transaction, first announced in April, makes Lefay the 39th brand under the Marriott umbrella and the first one focused exclusively on luxury wellness.

Under the structure of the deal, the joint venture now owns the Lefay brand and its intellectual property, while the Leali family retains ownership of the Italian real estate. Properties will operate under long-term management agreements, with Marriott handling development, sales, marketing, and distribution.

Lefay currently runs two award-winning resorts in Italy — one on the shores of Lago di Garda and another in the Dolomites — with three more in development across Tuscany, Southern Italy, and the Swiss Alps. Each property is built around nature-driven wellness programming that integrates movement, nutrition, and preventative health.

The move positions Marriott to compete more directly in a luxury wellness travel market that Phocuswright recently valued at 894 billion dollars, with projections reaching 1.38 trillion dollars by 2029. Competitors like Hyatt and Accor have been expanding their own wellness-focused offerings, and brands like Zoetry Wellness and Spa Resorts have carved out loyal followings in the space.

Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano said Lefay would help the company expand its presence in a luxury category increasingly defined by wellbeing, purpose, and meaningful experiences. The company has already identified several priority leisure destinations for further expansion.

Integration into Marriott digital platforms and the Bonvoy loyalty program is expected to be complete by late 2026.
