Five-Star Diamond Award
Sandals Royal Bahamian's defining feature is Sandals Barefoot Cay — a private offshore island accessible by boat from the main resort. The island has its own restaurant (Aralia House), a pool, snorkeling directly off the shore, and a much more secluded atmosphere than the main Cable Beach property. Getting there requires a boat ride, which means weather conditions can cancel access on windy days — this happens and guests report it. Plan your island day early in the week rather than as a final-day fallback.
The main resort building is a restored 1946 British colonial hotel that was comprehensively renovated for $55 million and reopened in January 2022. The renovation is recent enough that the facilities are in genuinely good condition. The colonial aesthetic — arched corridors, manicured gardens, British-inflected design details — is more distinctive than the typical contemporary-resort look that dominates the all-inclusive category. The Crystal Lagoon swim-up suite rooms are the most modern design element.
Cable Beach is one of Nassau's most accessible resort beaches, and the 15-minute airport transfer from Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) is one of the shortest of any Sandals property. Nassau's broader tourism infrastructure — the harbor, the historic straw market, and Atlantis on Paradise Island across the bay — is accessible for guests who want off-resort context.
The honest challenge here is competition for loungers and restaurant reservations. Lounge chairs at prime pool spots go early; the same early-morning reservation dynamic that applies at other Sandals properties is in full effect here. Service consistency has room to improve per guest reviews — some interactions are exceptional, others fall short of the luxury pricing expectation.
