Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus sits in Bayahibe — a small fishing village turned resort area on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic, 17 km from La Romana airport and roughly 45–77 km from Punta Cana depending on which airport you're flying into. Opened in 2002, a major renovation in 2019 updated 528 rooms, a pool, and the lobby bar. The property is built around colonial hacienda architecture with an iconic lighthouse at the center — a visual anchor point within the large grounds.
The beach holds Blue Flag certification, which carries genuine operational requirements: water quality monitoring, environmental management standards, and safety provisions. The resort maintains a coral nursery on-site and follows responsible seafood sourcing practices — commitments that go beyond typical sustainability marketing.
Dining spans six specialty restaurants and six bars. The La Geisha Japanese restaurant with teppanyaki show cooking is the most interactive option. El Colonial serves gourmet international cuisine (age 10+ only). La Hacienda covers authentic Mexican; La Spiaggia covers Italian; La Goleta transitions from daytime snack bar to outdoor steakhouse for dinner. El Ingenio serves as the main international buffet. Advance reservations are required for specialty restaurants.
The Star Camp runs mornings through 10:30 PM for three age groups, and a dedicated teen mini-disco operates from 8:30–9 PM — a detail that matters for families with teenagers. Four pools include a bubble pool as a distinctive feature. A five-treatment-room SPA Sensations with an outdoor water circuit covers the wellness program.
Bayahibe's location in the southeast is a deliberate choice for guests wanting a quieter, less commercialized setting than Punta Cana — the area is less built up, the beach is less crowded, and the drive from La Romana airport is 15–20 minutes versus the typical 45+ minutes from Punta Cana.
