Iberostar Cozumel's defining feature isn't a pool or restaurant — it's the dive center. The resort sits on Cozumel's southwestern shore, which gives it access to the Palancar and Santa Rosa Wall reefs via the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest barrier reef in the world. For guests who dive or snorkel, this is the primary reason to stay here over other Cozumel or Riviera Maya properties.
The physical layout is unusual for an all-inclusive: 293 bungalow-style rooms spread through low tropical vegetation rather than stacked in a tower. Each bungalow has a private patio with a hammock. The result is significantly more privacy and immersion in the surrounding jungle than you'd get at a high-rise resort, at the cost of more walking between facilities. This design either appeals immediately or it doesn't — guests who want a compact, high-energy resort campus will find this too spread out.
The 170-meter beach is white sand but the shore entry can be rocky. A pier with ladders provides easier water access for swimmers and snorkelers. Non-motorized water sports — Hobie cat sailing, kayaking, and one hour daily of windsurfing — are included. The Green Globe Certification and single-use plastic ban are genuine rather than decorative.
Who should skip this: guests who want a swim-up bar pool as their primary social activity will find the three pools more utilitarian than festive. Guests who aren't interested in diving or snorkeling give up the main reason to choose Cozumel over the mainland. At 12.5 miles (20 km) from Cozumel Airport, the transfer is 10–20 minutes by taxi.
