All-Inclusive Convenience
The stress-free nature of the all-inclusive package, encompassing meals, drinks, lift passes, and lessons, is highly praised for simplifying family ski holidays. The wristband system enhances ease of access and transactions.
Exceptional Dining
Guests consistently laud the wide array of high-quality gourmet food, including fresh seafood, Wagyu beef, diverse international options, and the popular yakiniku restaurant, Haku.
Comprehensive Ski Program
The included lift passes and daily group ski and snowboard lessons, led by skilled English-speaking instructors, are consistently praised for making winter sports accessible and enjoyable for all levels.
Family-Friendly Services
Dedicated Kids' Clubs, which even assist children with ski preparation, are a significant advantage for parents seeking both family fun and personal relaxation during their stay.
Mina Mina Beach Access
The complimentary access to Japan's largest indoor wave pool and its onsen provides a unique and enjoyable non-skiing activity option for all ages, highly valued by guests.
Potential Hidden Costs
Guests are frequently reminded that 'extras' such as Petit Club Med, private ski lessons, equipment rental, spa services, and premium drinks incur additional charges despite the all-inclusive branding.
Resort Size & Layout
The large, spread-out nature of the resort can lead to considerable walking distances between rooms, restaurants, and ski lifts, which might be a concern for families or tired skiers.
Food Consistency
While generally praised, some reviews indicate that the food quality and variety at the main buffet can occasionally be inconsistent or may not always meet the highest expectations compared to other luxury resorts.
Limited External Options
The resort's somewhat isolated location means fewer opportunities to venture outside the Club Med premises for diverse dining or cultural experiences, which might not appeal to guests prioritizing local exploration.
Weather-Dependent Views
The breathtaking 'sea of clouds' phenomenon at Unkai Terrace is entirely weather-dependent, meaning a clear view is not guaranteed, and guests should manage their expectations accordingly.

Club Med Tomamu Hokkaido is one of the few places in the world where you can ski powder in the morning and swim in an indoor wave pool before dinner — Mina Mina Beach, Japan's largest indoor wave pool, is part of the wider Tomamu resort complex and is included for Club Med guests. The property opened in December 2017, designed by Jean-Philippe Nuel with a modern take on Japanese mountain architecture, and has quickly established itself as the main all-inclusive ski offering in Japan.
The resort works best for families and couples seeking a fully managed winter sports experience. The all-inclusive covers gourmet buffet meals, group ski and snowboard lessons for all levels (instructors speak English), lift passes for the Tomamu slopes, and access to Mina Mina Beach and the Kirin-no-Yu indoor/outdoor onsen. The activity program outside of skiing is stronger than most Alpine Club Meds: the ice village in winter is unique, the wave pool is genuinely impressive in scale, and the onsen provides a proper Japanese cultural experience.
The honest constraint is the main resort layout. At 340 rooms, Tomamu is mid-sized for a Club Med, but the building layout means significant walking distances between guest rooms and central facilities — a recurring complaint from families with young children and guests returning after a full day on the slopes. The Hidaka building is consistently recommended as the most convenient for families, being closer to the gondola.
Practically: the resort is 1.5–2 hours from New Chitose Airport (CTS) by car or 1 hour 10 minutes from Obihiro (OBO). Ski and snowboard equipment rental is not included in the standard package — budget separately. Petit Club Med for ages 2–3 is an additional charge beyond the all-inclusive rate and has limited capacity; pre-booking is essential. The yakiniku restaurant Haku is included in the package and is notably popular — worth visiting at least twice.
Summer operation runs June–August with 15 included land and water activities, making this a viable option outside ski season, particularly for families who want the structure and kids' programming without the ski component.
