Diverse Entertainment
The comprehensive entertainment program, featuring an energetic animation team, live music, shows, an on-site club, and casino, is a major draw.

The resort's well-kept and aesthetically pleasing grounds are frequently admired by guests, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere.
Complex Access
Guests highly appreciate the extensive access to amenities, pools, and the water park across the wider Bahia Principe complex, adding value and variety.
Outdated Room Condition
The condition of the rooms is a consistent concern, with guests reporting outdated decor, poor maintenance, and issues like leaking AC units and clogged tubs.
Inconsistent Service
Service quality is highly mixed, with many guests experiencing rude or unhelpful behavior from front desk and buffet staff, often feeling ignored or perceiving service tied to tips.
Beach Seaweed & Shade
The beach frequently suffers from significant amounts of seaweed, especially in July, impacting the overall beach experience and making shaded loungers hard to find.
Mosquitoes & Odors
Mosquitoes are a prevalent issue, alongside reports of unpleasant mold or sewage-like smells in some buffet areas and guest rooms, detracting from comfort.
A La Carte Reservations
Securing à la carte dinner reservations is frequently difficult due to limited availability (e.g., 2 per 5-night stay) and a restrictive booking policy.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro sits directly on Arena Gorda, one of the better stretches of Bavaro Beach, and that location is the clearest reason to book it over inland alternatives on the same complex. The resort was substantially renovated in December 2023 — the most visible changes were the new 'La Isla' area near the main pool and the rebrand of certain rooms to 'Premium Junior Suites.' Despite the renovation, maintenance complaints (leaking AC units, clogged tubs) appear in post-2023 reviews, suggesting the work was uneven.
Families and groups of friends who want variety get the most out of this property. Guests at Grand Bavaro can access the specialty restaurants and facilities at Grand Punta Cana and Grand Turquesa next door — that's a real cross-property dining network across 14 restaurants. Adults travelling without children will find this works reasonably well; the property isn't adults-only but it's not as overwhelmingly child-focused as some Bavaro competitors. Couples wanting a quieter, more intimate setting should look at the adults-only Aquamarine instead.
The most reliable complaints are: rooms feel dated despite the renovation (the upgrade was not property-wide), seaweed builds up significantly on the beach in July and August, and the check-in process is described as slow and sometimes disorganised. Mosquitoes are a genuine problem in the evenings — pack repellent. Beach chairs with shade run out early in peak season.
The property has 744 rooms, sits 25–28 km from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ, about 30 minutes), and has operated since 2005. The cross-complex access is the strongest argument for this over standalone all-inclusives in Bavaro at the same price tier. For beach conditions without seaweed, October through February is the more reliable window.
