This Resort Brand Just Opened a 705-Room Property on One of Cancun's Most Iconic Stretches
Riu Hotels & Resorts held the grand opening of its newest Cancun property, featuring elevated swim-up rooms and a sixth-floor skybar overlooking the Caribbean.
Riu Hotels & Resorts officially opened the Hotel Riu Ventura in Cancun this week, adding 705 rooms to one of Mexico's most visible beachfront stretches. The property sits at the southern edge of the Hotel Zone, steps from the El Mirador viewpoint, on a site that had sat empty for nearly two decades.
The resort introduces a first for RIU in Mexico: 36 elevated swim-up rooms with direct pool access from private terraces. A sixth-floor adults-only skybar and pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea anchors the upper level, giving the property a rooftop feel that's uncommon for the brand's Mexican portfolio.
Guests get access to eight restaurants under the all-inclusive program, ranging from a main buffet with live cooking stations to specialty options including Asian, Italian, Mexican, and steakhouse dining. Six pools are spread throughout the property.
The opening was overseen by fourth-generation Riu family members, with company patriarch Luis Riu directly involved in the development. It marks the brand's 15th property in Mexico's Quintana Roo state, joining nearby resorts like the Hotel Riu Cancun and Hotel Riu Palace Costa Mujeres.
RIU has been on an aggressive growth run in Mexico. The company recently completed an 820-room renovation at Hotel Riu Jalisco in Nuevo Vallarta, and the Ventura opening signals that Cancun's Hotel Zone still has room for large-scale all-inclusive development despite the region's density.
