RIU Hotels & Resorts
The December 2025 reopening after a full renovation means Riu Jalisco is currently in its best physical condition since the original 2002 opening. All rooms, common areas, and facilities reflect the current renovation — the concerns that appeared in pre-2025 reviews about dated fixtures and worn interiors no longer apply. The 10-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta's Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport (PVR) is the most convenient airport transfer of any Nuevo Vallarta resort, which matters on arrival day and late departure checkout.
Flaminigos Beach (Playa de Flamingos) is the property's immediate setting — a wide, darker-sand Pacific beach with more wave activity than Caribbean resorts. The Riviera Nayarit coast has consistent surf energy; the beach is swimmable but with Pacific conditions rather than the calm Caribbean. The hotel sits in Nuevo Vallarta, which lacks the historic character of Puerto Vallarta's old town (Zona Romántica), but compensates with easy access to a proper city — the 30-minute cab into PV's Malecon and restaurant scene is worth doing once.
The honest complaints from recent reviews: buffet food quality is inconsistent — dishes described as bland or watery appear in multiple reviews, not isolated incidents. The à la carte restaurants get better marks but have reported wait times and cold food during peak dinner hours. The gym has appeared in reviews as under-maintained. These are Riu-wide patterns more than Jalisco-specific, but they're relevant for guests who care about food quality as a primary consideration.
Practically: Standard rooms, six family-oriented pool areas, two main pools with swim-up bars, and twenty dining and bar options. The Pacha discotheque is on-site. The 24-hour all-inclusive covers the full program. Family configurations go up to three-bedroom family rooms. Nuevo Vallarta's marina is walkable for boat excursions.
