Kimpton Grand Roatan Opens Beyabu Rooftop Over West Bay Reef
Kimpton Grand Roatan debuts Beyabu Rooftop above West Bay Beach, adding sunset cocktails and private events with clear Mesoamerican Reef views.
Kimpton Grand Roatan Resort & Spa has opened Beyabu Rooftop, a new open-air venue above West Bay Beach with views across the Caribbean Sea and the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system on the planet.
Caribbean Journal reported the debut on Sept. 29, 2026. The name Beyabu means beach in Garifuna, nodding to the culture that shaped Honduras' Bay Islands. The space holds up to about 80 guests for private dinners, cocktail gatherings, wellness sessions, weddings, and smaller celebrations.
What the rooftop adds to a West Bay stay
Mornings look out over the reef as light hits the water. Afternoons shift toward cocktails, music, and sunset. After dark, lighting turns the terrace into a tighter nighttime hangout. That gives the 119-room resort another reason to linger on property beyond the infinity pool and beach that already define West Bay stays.
Kimpton Grand Roatan opened on West Bay in 2023 with four dining concepts and a destination spa. In September 2026 it also earned a MICHELIN Key, one of only two Honduras resorts to receive the recognition. Beyabu expands nearly 6,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space that already includes a ballroom and boardroom for larger groups.
Why the view is the product
Roatan's upscale hotel scene keeps concentrating around West Bay because the sand, water clarity, and reef access are the draw. A rooftop does not invent a new attraction. It packages the one guests already came for: looking at that reef without getting wet.
Air Canada is adding first-ever nonstops to Roatan from Toronto and Montreal this winter, which should push more Canadian travelers onto the island. Kimpton is also expanding across the wider Caribbean and Mexico, including the brand's first all-inclusive at Kimpton Tres Rios Riviera Maya. Roatan remains a different product: reef-first, boutique scale, and now a named rooftop for sunset reservations.
Who should care
Couples and small groups who already picked West Bay for diving or snorkeling get an easy add-on for celebrations. Meeting planners who outgrew a standard boardroom can book an 80-person terrace with a built-in backdrop. Guests who simply want a better golden-hour seat than a crowded beach bar now have a clear ask at the front desk: Beyabu at sunset.
If you are comparing Roatan hotels this winter, the rooftop will not replace reef time. It does give Kimpton Grand Roatan a concrete new amenity in a year when the property is collecting awards and the island's airlift is expanding.
