This Adults-Only Montego Bay All-Inclusive Just Closed Its Doors — and Won't Reopen Until December

Hotel Riu Palace Jamaica closed on August 31, kicking off a multi-million-dollar rebuild that will keep the adults-only resort dark until December 11. The 288-room property on Montego Bay's Mahoe Bay is the latest Riu Hotels & Resorts flagship in the Caribbean to go offline for a top-to-bottom overhaul.

When it reopens, guests will find completely renovated rooms and refreshed public spaces. Riu is also reworking several of the resort's restaurants, including its steakhouse, part of a wider effort to bring the aging Palace up to the standard of the brand's newer builds.

The timing is deliberate. A late-summer close and a mid-December reopening put the resort back in service just ahead of peak Caribbean travel season, when adults-only demand in Montego Bay runs highest.

Riu has spent more than two decades building out its Jamaica portfolio, and the company has signaled it isn't slowing down. The renovation lands alongside a broader wave of Jamaican resort investment, from Sandals' reimagined Jamaica properties to reopenings across the north coast. Riu's neighboring Hotel Riu Montego Bay remains open, giving the brand continued coverage in the destination while the Palace is under wraps.

For travelers holding winter bookings, the message is simple: anything before December 11 will need to be rebooked, but the payoff is a functionally brand-new resort by the holidays.
