The airport proximity is the defining logistical advantage of Riu Montego Bay: 2–5 km from Sangster International Airport (MBJ), a 5–15 minute transfer. For guests flying in late or departing early, this removes the airport anxiety that plagues more remote Jamaican resorts. The tradeoff is occasional aircraft noise depending on wind direction — worth acknowledging upfront.
This property converted to adults-only (18+) in the 2020 renovation, which changed its character significantly. The transformation from a mixed-audience property to adults-only gave the pools and entertainment areas a different energy. The Pacha discotheque and Riu Party events are included and form the core of the evening program. If the nightlife focus doesn't match what you're looking for, the more relaxed Riu Palace Jamaica in Montego Bay is the comparison alternative.
The Jerk Station on the beach is the most Jamaica-specific offering in the dining program — authentic jerk preparation for lunch, eaten on the beach, is the kind of genuinely local experience that's rare at mass-market all-inclusives.
