Best Beach All-Inclusive Resorts

Holds the largest private white-sand beach in Jamaica — a broad, long stretch of calm Caribbean shoreline with clear water, full beach service, and watersports included. The beach is the defining feature.

Overview

Sandals Montego Bay was where the chain started in 1981, and it shows in the DNA of the place — big beach, strong water sports program, and a heavy emphasis on dining variety. A multi-million dollar renovation completed around 2018–2019 modernized the rooms and public spaces significantly, so the product today is current even if the history is long. The location on Jamaica's largest private white-sand beach, with a 10–15 minute transfer from Sangster International Airport (MBJ), remains one of its most practical advantages across the Sandals portfolio.

The overwater amenities are the most distinctive physical features. An overwater bar with built-in hammocks sits over the water at the property's edge — the most photographed spot at the resort and genuinely worth visiting for a sunset drink. A separate overwater wedding chapel is the reason this property gets a significant volume of wedding bookings. The 'Stay at 1, Play at 2' program with neighboring Sandals Royal Caribbean adds meaningful restaurant and amenity access via complimentary shuttle.

The drawback that appears in almost every honest guest review: aircraft noise. Sangster International sits close enough that planes on approach are audible and visible, primarily between roughly 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. For most guests this becomes background noise, but if silence matters to you, this property is not the right choice. The seven pools are spread across the property rather than concentrated in a single main pool deck, which suits guests who want variety but frustrates those who want one clear social hub.

Practical numbers: 272 rooms across three service tiers (Luxury, Club Sandals, Butler Elite). Twelve specialty restaurants and six bars. PADI scuba included for certified divers (up to two dives/day). Motorized water sports — waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing — included, which is less common across all-inclusives. Glass-bottom boat rides included. Life Fitness gym equipment, 24-hour access. Price tier: mid-to-upper in the Sandals portfolio.

Montego Bay has a consistent dry season from December through April. The airport's proximity makes last-minute bookings more viable here than at more remote properties. Butler Elite suites in the beachfront swim-up category tend to book out first during holiday periods.

Pros

  • +Jamaica's longest private white-sand beach — reef-protected, calm, and consistently well-maintained.
  • +The overwater bar with hammocks is a genuine architectural standout, not just a marketing feature.
  • +Motorized water sports (waterskiing, wakeboarding, tubing) and glass-bottom boat rides are included — uncommon across all-inclusives.
  • +Ten-minute airport transfer is among the fastest in the entire Sandals chain.
  • +Tennis courts with complimentary certified instruction included — most all-inclusives include courts but not lessons.

Cons

  • −Aircraft noise from Sangster International Airport is audible and visible for several hours during peak afternoon arrival windows — a real quality-of-stay issue for noise-sensitive guests.
  • −Seven pools spread across the property means no single social gathering point — guests who want one main pool scene may find the layout fragmented.
  • −Spa treatments, PADI certification, Discover Scuba, and all off-resort excursions cost extra.
  • −Sargassum seaweed affects the beach during summer and early fall months (roughly July–October), reducing water clarity.

Tips

  • For guests sensitive to noise, request a room on the side of the property facing away from the airport flight path — the concierge can advise on specific buildings.
  • The Mariner is open until 5:00 AM — the only place for food after 10:00 PM. If you expect late nights, know where it is on day one.
  • For the overwater bar hammocks at sunset, arrive no later than 5:30 PM — the hammocks fill fast and it's the best spot on the property during golden hour.
  • The 'Stay at 1, Play at 2' ferry to Sandals Royal Caribbean's private island is worth scheduling for a half-day mid-trip, not as the first or last day.
  • Club Mobay (separate purchase) provides a premium lounge at Sangster Airport — useful if your flight is delayed or you have an early departure.
