Park Royal Beach Ixtapa sits directly on El Palmar Bay, one of the better Pacific coast beaches in Mexico—warm water, reliable surf, and the wide golden sand that makes Ixtapa worth visiting over the more developed Pacific alternatives. The resort opened in 1989 and received lobby and outdoor renovation in 2015. At 228 rooms it is mid-sized, with enough facilities for families without the overwhelming scale of the Cancun mega-resorts.
The family infrastructure is legitimate: a dedicated kids' club for ages 4–11 running 9am to 5pm, a children's water park with slides and splash pads, a children's pool, and a separate adults-only Chill-out Lounge open until 2am beachside. The three à la carte dinner restaurants (El Italiano, El Pescador, La Veranda buffet) cover Italian, seafood, and buffet; El Italiano and El Pescador require reservations and have dress codes. El Italiano is restricted to guests over 12.
Ixtapa is a planned resort town—quieter and less built up than Cancun or Puerto Vallarta, with a different character. The Pacific waters here can have more wave energy than the Caribbean, which matters for families with young children. The airport is 16–19 km away, about 17–25 minutes.
Honest guest feedback surfaces two recurring issues: chairs at the main pool fill early (by 9am on busy days), and some room finishes show their age with musty smells or dated bathrooms. The swim-up bar is the best-liked feature on property. The cooking, Spanish, and dance classes are genuinely included and give the resort some cultural texture.
