TripAdvisor
Hotel Riu Turquoise is the newest Riu property in the Indian Ocean, purpose-built in 2024 on the Le Morne Peninsula — the southwestern tip of Mauritius, dominated by Le Morne Brabant, a UNESCO World Heritage basalt monolith. This isn't a legacy property with dated infrastructure; the rooms, pools, and public spaces were designed from scratch. The beach is a legitimate selling point: the peninsula sits behind a coral reef that creates a natural lagoon, and the combination of calm water, consistent trade winds, and a sandy bottom makes this one of the best kitesurfing and windsurfing locations on the island. Beginners' equipment for windsurfing is included.
The resort is family-oriented (with RiuLand kids' club and a dedicated children's pool) but not dominated by children — the adults-only swim-up bar and 18+ spa relaxation pools give adult guests their own spaces. At 390 rooms, it's significantly smaller than most Mauritius all-inclusives, which keeps pool and beach crowds manageable.
The realistic limitation: Le Morne is remote. The peninsula is about 75 minutes from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) and roughly an hour from Port Louis. There's almost nothing nearby other than beach and water. Guests who want to explore Mauritius's markets, waterfalls, and villages should plan excursion days rather than expecting to wander out on foot. This is a resort for guests who want to stay on property.
Dining runs four restaurants and four bars. The specialty à la carte options (Indian and Steakhouse) require reservations and are available to guests staying 3+ nights. 24-hour room service is included — a meaningful convenience given the remote location. All meals, snacks, and beverages covered in the rate.
Best season: May through November, when trade winds are consistent (great for water sports) and temperatures are pleasant. December through April is summer in Mauritius — hot, more humid, and cyclone season technically runs January through March, though direct hits are rare.
