Riu Palace Punta Cana's scale is what defines the stay. At 676 rooms, this is one of the larger properties in the Punta Cana all-inclusive corridor, which creates meaningful tradeoffs. On the positive side: 15 dining and bar venues, integration into the broader Riu Resort complex with Splash Water World access, and room count high enough to keep specialty restaurants busy enough to feel lively. On the negative side: peak-season crowding at the pools is real, and the '30-minute transfer from PUJ airport' is 25–30 km depending on traffic.
The colonial palace architecture is the visual identity. The exterior and lobby read as more formally designed than most Dominican Republic all-inclusives — painted ceilings, larger common areas, a design vocabulary borrowed from Spanish colonial estates. The 2018 renovation refreshed the interiors without rebuilding the overall structure. Room quality is generally good in upper categories; lower-tier rooms may show age relative to fully rebuilt properties like the renovated Riu Palace Macao.
Splash Water World access (free entry included) is a meaningful differentiator for families. The park is shared across the RIU complex, so it can get crowded in high season — but having it at all separates this property from family-oriented competitors that only have pools. The 'Stay at One, Play at More' privilege adds dining and bar access at other Riu properties in the complex, effectively expanding your dining rotation beyond the six restaurants.
Practically: 676 rooms all in junior suite or suite format. Six specialty restaurants (Japanese, Brazilian/Spanish, Italian, fusion, steakhouse) plus two buffets. Three outdoor pools including one with children's water park slides. Renova Spa with five treatment rooms. RiuLand kids' club for ages 4–12. Free Pacha discotheque entry (drinks extra).
