Riu Hotels & Resorts / External Audit
Hotel Riu Chiclana is one of the larger family all-inclusive properties on the Spanish Atlantic coast — 832 rooms spread across a main building and 42 bungalow-style annexe structures that create a campus feel rather than a single tower block. This layout means more walking between facilities, but it also keeps noise distributed and gives the resort a more relaxed spatial rhythm than high-rise Canary Islands alternatives. The 2018 renovation updated interiors throughout, though some annexe buildings have fared better than others.
The resort's strongest credentials are family-oriented: a pirate boat splash playground with water slides, a baby pool, and a well-regarded RiuLand program for ages 4–12 that splits into mini-club and maxi-club tracks. Teens get their own Riu4U program. The evening entertainment runs until late and features a mini disco — useful, though parents note this can generate noise near some room clusters.
Playa de la Barrosa is the beach, and it's genuinely good — wide, golden sand, one of the better stretches in the Cadiz province. The access, however, is 80 steps down from the resort, which is worth knowing before booking if mobility is a concern. The walk is about 10 minutes. The beach is flagged for surf conditions that can make swimming inadvisable above one meter of wave height.
Practically: the resort is about 47–50 minutes from Jerez Airport (XRY). All-inclusive runs 24 hours and covers everything from the specialty restaurants to a late-night bar. Gluten-free options are limited. Golf courses are available nearby at extra cost, and the hotel's sustainability accreditation (Green & Fair Hotel) is legitimate.
