A La Carte Dining & Drinks Quality
While the buffet is praised, some guests express mixed opinions on the quality of food at specific à la carte restaurants and the general quality of included alcoholic beverages.
Restaurant Reservation Challenges

Booking
Hotel Riu Atoll opened in 2019 as RIU's first Maldivian property — 264 rooms on Maafushi island in the Dhaalu Atoll, including 36 overwater junior suites. The Maldives context is what makes this property distinctive: the same all-inclusive format RIU applies globally now operating in one of the world's most sought-after destinations, at a price point well below the ultra-luxury private-island resorts that define the Maldivian market.
Access is the reality of the Dhaalu Atoll: a 40-45 minute domestic flight from Velana International Airport (Malé) to Kudahuvadhoo, followed by a 10-20 minute speedboat transfer. This is standard for Maldivian properties away from the North Malé Atoll, but guests should budget for the domestic flight cost and the additional transfer time. Resorts accessible by seaplane from Malé don't require the domestic flight but are typically more expensive — Riu Atoll's pricing reflects the slightly longer transfer.
The resort connects via walkway to Riu Palace Maldivas, effectively giving guests access to both properties' facilities. 7 restaurants and bars handle dining across the combined complex. The underwater world off Maafushi island is the natural resource — the Dhaalu Atoll has good coral coverage and pelagic species sightings, though the house reef for immediate shore snorkeling is limited relative to some other Maldivian atolls, requiring excursions for the best sites.
Practically: 264 rooms including 36 overwater suites, 4-star, RIU all-inclusive standard (food, drinks, activities), entry-tier Maldives pricing. The overwater junior suites are the accommodation worth stretching for.
