Hilton Vallarta Riviera's best feature is the beach. A private cove with natural rock barriers and sea walls creates calm, protected water — in a way that the exposed Banderas Bay coastline doesn't typically offer. No neighboring resorts occupy the beach, which keeps it quiet. For Puerto Vallarta guests who prioritize actual ocean swimming rather than pool time, this is a meaningful differentiator from the hotel zone properties farther north.
The property was built in 1980 but renovated extensively before reopening as a Hilton all-inclusive in August 2021. At 444 oceanfront rooms and suites, all with Banderas Bay views, the scale is manageable. Two oceanfront infinity pools run on parallel tracks — one family, one adults-only — so neither demographic is squeezed into an inadequate space.
The dining reputation centers on Sunan (Asian fusion, consistently the most-praised specialty restaurant) and Cocomar (seafood, oceanfront lunch). La Luce Italian and Maxal Mexican are solid but run only Wednesday through Sunday — a significant constraint for week-long guests who want variety on Monday and Tuesday. The Vela Food Hall buffet covers those gaps with a more energetic format: self-serve mimosa bar, donut wall, made-to-order quesadillas, and chilaquiles at breakfast.
The main weaknesses: buffet quality is inconsistent, some rooms have musty odors or maintenance issues (air conditioning and hot water appear most), elevator wait times get long during peak occupancy, and the evening entertainment ends earlier than most guests want. Wi-Fi is weak in some outdoor areas.
Practical: 444 rooms, Banderas Bay views from all. Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) is 16 km away, 20–35 minutes. The Premium Level tier adds Club Lounge access, enhanced views, and a daily happy hour — a more modest upgrade than the Enclave programs at other Hilton properties. Downtown Puerto Vallarta's Zona Romántica is accessible by Uber for day trips.
