El Cid El Moro's suite inventory is its strongest differentiator. While most comparable Mazatlán all-inclusives offer standard hotel rooms, El Moro has one-bedroom suites up to 1,280 sq ft and two-bedroom suites at 2,232 sq ft, most with kitchenettes. For families doing an extended stay or groups needing living space, the room sizes alone make this the standout choice in the El Cid complex.
The multi-resort access arrangement (shuttle to El Cid Castilla and Granada) means the limited three on-site restaurants aren't the full picture. El Moro itself has La Concha (international seafood), La Cascada (Mexican), and Ban Thai (Thai/Asian fusion, dinner three nights a week), plus a pair of snack bars. The dining variety across all three El Cid properties combined is reasonable. The Thai restaurant specifically is unusual for Mazatlán — it's worth booking on one of its operating nights.
Two consistent issues stand out in guest reviews. First, food quality is uneven — the main buffet and snack bars draw complaints while La Concha and La Cascada get positive reviews. Second, the beach. Playa Gaviotas is a public Golden Zone beach, meaning it gets crowded, beach vendors are persistent, and at high tide the usable sand narrows significantly. If a pristine private beach is a priority, this isn't the resort.
Built in 1989 and renovated in 2014, El Moro is mid-range rather than luxury. The mandatory daily resort fee (approximately $15 per room) is charged at check-in — factor that into your budget. Elite plan guests should verify their specific benefits on arrival, as multiple reviews note inconsistent enforcement of black-band privileges.
