Inconsistent Room Quality
While some rooms are renovated, older sections may show signs of age, be smaller, or have maintenance issues, with some guests reporting worn or less than ideal conditions.

Club Med La Caravelle is the brand's flagship Caribbean property following a $50 million renovation completed in November 2019. It sits on the protected cove of Sainte-Anne in southern Guadeloupe, about 40 minutes from Pointe-à-Pitre Airport. The renovation signal is genuine: the rooms, pools, and public spaces are genuinely fresh, not superficially refreshed.
The resort's strongest single differentiator is its water sports program. La Caravelle's position on Sainte-Anne bay puts it in consistent trade winds — ideal for its included windsurfing and kitesurfing school. Few all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean include kitesurfing instruction in the base rate. For guests who came for the water, this is the defining reason to choose La Caravelle over comparable Caribbean Club Med properties.
The guest split is handled architecturally: the adults-only Zen Oasis has its own infinity pool, quieter zones, and Deluxe/Suite accommodations in a separate building, while families have the main pool, Mini Club, and splash areas. This separation works — parents consistently report that the family area doesn't bleed into the Zen Oasis. However, the beach itself is shared and gets genuinely crowded during peak season. For guaranteed beach space, arrive at the cove before 9 AM or walk to the eastern tip of the beach where crowds thin.
The honest limitation: several room categories — particularly in the older Grande Terre buildings — retain visible age despite the renovation. Reports of mold and maintenance issues in these wings are recent enough to flag. The Zen Oasis rooms and the Marie Galante buildings are the most consistent in condition. Wi-Fi is essentially lobby-only, which matters if you need connectivity throughout the resort.
Practical context: 13 room categories, all meals and drinks included, three pools, four bars plus a dedicated rum distillery tasting bar. No car needed for the resort, but renting one is strongly recommended for exploring Guadeloupe beyond the property — the Soufrière volcano, Cousteau underwater reserve, and black sand beaches of Basse-Terre are within reasonable driving distance.
