Exceptional Staff
Guests consistently laud the staff for their amazing, attentive, and helpful service, frequently going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. Their dedication to hospitality is a standout feature.
Beautiful Grounds & Pools
The resort's stunning Mayan-inspired architecture, lush tropical gardens, and intricate system of six interconnected pools with waterfalls are major draws, providing a visually appealing and relaxing environment.
Spacious Suites
The accommodations are highly rated for their spaciousness, comfort, and bright atmosphere, with many featuring balconies that offer appealing ocean or garden views.
Quality Specialty Dining
The à la carte Mexican (Agave) and Japanese (Kyoto) restaurants receive widespread acclaim for their tasty food, beautiful presentation, and enjoyable ambiance, offering excellent dining experiences.
Rocky, Small Beach
While beachfront, the private beach is frequently noted as small and rocky, often having strong currents that limit comfortable swimming and long walks.
Inconsistent & Costly Wi-Fi
In-room Wi-Fi typically incurs an extra daily fee and guests often report it to be unreliable, which can be frustrating for modern travelers expecting consistent connectivity.
Buffet Repetitiveness & Noise
The main buffet can suffer from repetitive options and inconsistent food temperatures, while loud nightly shows can be heard in many rooms until late, potentially disturbing guests seeking quiet.
Room Maintenance
While generally comfortable, some guest rooms show signs of aging like faded countertops, and occasional issues with air conditioning or ventilation have been reported.

Barceló Karmina occupies a headland on Manzanillo's Santiago Peninsula, and its Mayan-pyramid-inspired architecture isn't marketing exaggeration — the resort genuinely looks unlike anything else in western Mexico. Tiered ziggurat-style buildings rise from the landscaping, the pools cascade in interconnected tiers with waterfalls between levels, and the entire property has a theatrical quality that makes it memorable. This visual drama, combined with an all-suite room format (all 324 rooms are suites, starting at 732 sq ft) and direct access to a protected private bay, is what makes Karmina the standout choice in Manzanillo.
The dining situation is legitimate for an all-inclusive: three à la carte specialty restaurants (Italian Capri, Mexican Agave, Japanese Kyoto) supplement the main buffet, and the cliff-perch location of Agave restaurant — with sweeping views over Manzanillo Bay — is one of the better restaurant settings in Mexican all-inclusives. Reserve all three à la carte restaurants the moment you arrive, as they operate on a minimum-stay reservation system for non-Premium Level guests.
This is the right resort for couples and families seeking a visually distinctive Mexican all-inclusive without Cancún's crowds, and for guests who like the idea of authentic ocean-view dining rather than a generic resort strip. Manzanillo is genuinely off the beaten path by Mexican resort standards, which means lower prices, fewer tourists, and a more authentic town nearby. Who should look elsewhere: guests who want a large, energetic beach (Karmina's private beach is small and has rocky sections) or who want a broad range of nightlife options.
The private beach is the resort's most honest limitation. It's protected and calm — ideal for snorkeling — but smaller than most guests expect, with some rocky areas that require water shoes for comfortable entry. The pools are the real swimming venue here; multiple interconnected pools with waterfalls cover much of the central grounds.
Manzanillo International Airport (ZLO) is 24-32 km away, about 25-35 minutes. Wi-Fi is extra charge even for Premium Level guests — an unusual limitation that comes up repeatedly in reviews.
