Exceptional Staff & Service
Guests consistently praise the staff for their friendliness, attentiveness, and willingness to go the extra mile, making service a major highlight of their stay.
Beautiful Grounds
The resort's lush tropical landscaping and immaculate upkeep are frequently admired, contributing significantly to its aesthetic appeal.
Engaging Entertainment
The energetic entertainment team provides a diverse array of daily activities and nightly shows for all ages, receiving strong positive feedback for their enthusiasm.
Quality À La Carte Dining
While the buffet is decent, the specialty restaurants, particularly the Japanese and Italian options, are highly acclaimed for their excellent food quality.
Spacious & Clean Rooms
Rooms are noted for being spacious, featuring comfortable beds, and the overall cleanliness of the resort, including guest rooms, is consistently praised.
Murky Beach Water
The most significant drawback is the ocean water, which guests describe as murky, not clear, and prone to seaweed and rocks due to a nearby river, often leading them to prefer the pools.
Room Condition Concerns
While clean, some guests note that rooms could benefit from updating, citing older decor and occasional maintenance issues like inconsistent hot water or non-functioning doors.
Limited Specialty Dining
Guests frequently express frustration over the strict limit of typically three à la carte dinner reservations per week, making it challenging to experience all preferred dining options.
Repetitive Buffet
Despite good quality, the buffet food selection can become repetitive over extended stays, especially the beach buffet, which some guests find lacks variety.

Bahia Principe Grand La Romana is the closest all-inclusive to La Romana city and to Altos de Chavón, the replica 16th-century Mediterranean village built on the Chavón River cliffside — a genuinely unusual attraction that most Caribbean itineraries miss. The PGA Ocean's 4 golf course on-site is an 18-hole championship course, making this one of the few Dominican all-inclusives where golf is a primary activity rather than an afterthought. La Romana International Airport (LRM) is 28 minutes away — a notably shorter transfer than the Punta Cana-area resorts.
Families and golfers are the clearest audiences. The Bahia Kids programme is well-regarded, and the entertainment team receives consistent positive marks. The adults-only Bougainville section within the resort offers a quieter atmosphere for couples who book specifically into that zone.
The most important practical caveat: the ocean near the resort is murky and unsuitable for swimming most of the time, due to a nearby river that affects water clarity. The ocean also experiences some seaweed and occasional jellyfish. This is not a beach swimming resort — plan your holiday around the pools and treat the beach as a secondary option. Guest reviews that complain about this tend to be from guests expecting clear Caribbean water.
The resort opened in 2007, has around 500 rooms, and sits about 28 minutes from La Romana International Airport (LRM). À la carte restaurants are limited to three reservations per week per party — plan your specialty dinners in advance rather than making decisions day-by-day.
