Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica is architecturally distinctive among Caribbean all-inclusives — the Victorian-style buildings set it apart from the standard resort-block aesthetic across the Bavaro and Cancún strips. It sits on an 800-metre private cove beach in Runaway Bay, on Jamaica's north coast. The cove location protects the beach from heavy swells, making it swimmable for more days than open-coast Jamaican beaches. The resort opened in 2006 and received new room categories and a restaurant in late 2023/early 2024, followed by the Nyam Main Buffet renovation in November 2024.
Important practical note for anyone planning ahead: the entire resort closes from January 10 to December 1, 2026 for a comprehensive renovation. If you're planning a stay in 2026, check availability; this property will effectively be offline for most of that year.
Families are the primary audience, with a children's water park, dedicated kids and teens programmes, and ocean-facing connecting suites for larger groups. Couples find it workable but the property has no adults-only facilities. The resort is about 60–65 minutes from Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay — a notably longer transfer than the 20–30 minutes most Bavaro-area resorts manage from PUJ.
The most consistent guest complaints are inconsistent service quality (ranging from excellent to dismissive depending on department and timing) and variable room condition, with some blocks still needing the renovation that's been planned. Food reviews are mixed — the Japanese (Mikado) and Italian (Dolce Vita) specialty restaurants get the best marks, while the buffet is more variable. The Relaxing Jamaican Massage with Ganja Oil at the spa is a culturally specific treatment worth noting — cannabis-infused oil massage is legal in Jamaica and rarely offered at mainstream all-inclusives.
