Tuesday evening in Playa Mujeres looked a lot like a state event. Governor Mara Lezama joined Hyatt's Latin America and Caribbean president Gabriel Felip and Grupo Hermes owner Graciela Hank González to cut the ribbon on the newly reopened Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort, formally marking the end of an extensive renovation that touched every corner of the property.

The adults-only, AAA Four Diamond all-inclusive had been closed for months while crews gutted guest rooms, rebuilt the Preferred Club, and added an entirely new private beach club. All suites have been reimagined with a contemporary coastal palette — natural textures, soft fabrics, organic shapes — aimed squarely at the romance-and-relaxation crowd that has long defined the Secrets Resorts & Spas brand.

The headline addition is the new two-story Preferred Club building, which now includes a dedicated check-in lounge and an exclusive second-floor restaurant perched over the water. A newly constructed private beach club gives Preferred Club guests a separate stretch of sand for sunset meals and quieter days.

Culinary is where the transformation really shows. Desires Night Club and Coco Café have both been refreshed, Portofino has been reworked around elevated Italian cooking, and Bordeaux has been reimagined as an Amazonian-inspired tasting experience. The Secrets Spa is getting its own phase of upgrades still rolling out through mid-spring.

The property sits inside the gated Playa Mujeres community about 35 minutes north of Cancun International Airport, framed by a Greg Norman–designed golf course and still connected to its family-friendly sister property, Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort, via free-flow guest privileges. For Cancun-area travelers, the reopening restores one of the region's most complete adults-only packages — golf, spa, a private beach club, and a dining lineup that now stretches well past the usual all-inclusive playbook.
