Golf access is the defining feature that separates Secrets Playa Mujeres from the rest of the Secrets portfolio in Mexico. Complimentary twilight green fees at the Playa Mujeres Golf Course — an 18-hole championship layout — are included in the all-inclusive rate. That's genuinely unusual for any all-inclusive property. Guests who play golf and want to do so without racking up daily fees will find this property makes financial sense in a way no other Secrets does.
The January 2026 renovation touched everything: all 424 suites, public spaces, and dining venues were updated with a modern coastal design. For guests booking now, this means fresh room furnishings throughout — less wear than at older Secrets properties that haven't been refreshed since 2018 or 2019.
Playa Mujeres is a gated private community north of Cancun — quieter and more isolated than the Hotel Zone, which is intentional. The gated community atmosphere gives the surrounding area a manicured, low-traffic feel that guests either appreciate (quiet, no beach vendors) or find too contained (no easy walk to local restaurants or street food). The adjacent Dreams Playa Mujeres provides free-flow access — 10 more restaurants and 13 bars — which meaningfully expands dining variety and adds a water park option.
The main complaint from pre-renovation reviews concerned dated room furnishings — those reviews are now moot. The 16,000 sq ft spa by Pevonia is one of the larger facilities in the portfolio. Complimentary access to the adjacent Dreams resort also means family-adjacent exposure on certain days when Dreams guests cross over; the adults-only designation at Secrets is maintained on the Secrets side.
