Dreams Playa Mujeres opened in 2016 inside the private Playa Mujeres development north of Cancun's hotel zone — a gated beachfront community that keeps the property quieter than the main strip while adding 35–45 minutes to the airport transfer (31 km from Cancun International). The exclusive arrangement has a meaningful bonus: adult guests (18+) have complimentary access to the restaurants, bars, and facilities at the adjacent Secrets Playa Mujeres, effectively doubling the dining and bar options for couples and groups without children.
The 65,000 sq ft pool complex is the defining feature — two infinity pools, a grotto pool with waterfall, dedicated water park slides, two children's pools, and a lazy river (Preferred Club only) give this property one of the most extensive pool setups in the Riviera Maya. For families, the kids' water park and Explorer's Club (Red Cross CPR-certified staff, ages 3–12, 9am–10pm) are consistently praised. The Core Zone teens club runs 9am–1am — a later closing time than most comparable properties.
The primary drawbacks are operational: morning lounger-claiming is aggressive during peak season (guests place towels before 7am to secure umbrellas), and alcohol quality is reported as inconsistent — a recurring complaint across multiple seasons. The Preferred Club tier unlocks the lazy river — something many guests feel should be generally accessible — and the sales team for membership upgrades is described as persistent.
All 502 rooms are suites starting at 602 sq ft with private terraces and hot tubs. The Dreams Box in-room delivery system allows room service without staff entry. The Greg Norman-designed Playa Mujeres Golf Club is adjacent with discounted rates for resort guests. The 16,000 sq ft spa includes a Watsu pool (underwater massage) and a Temazcal ceremony — both unusually specific offerings for an all-inclusive spa. Cancun airport is 35–45 minutes away.
