The renovation covers virtually every guest-facing element of the property: rooms, public spaces, dining areas, and amenity zones are all getting overhauled. Riu Hotels & Resorts is positioning the redesign as a move toward a more luxurious, modern experience tailored to couples and adults seeking a quieter atmosphere.
Part of a Broader Renovation Push
The closure is not an isolated project. Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun is also undergoing major renovations as part of the same upgrade cycle. Together, the two properties represent a significant reinvestment by the Spanish hotel group in its Mexican Caribbean portfolio.
The adults-only conversion follows a broader industry trend. Brands across the Riviera Maya and Cancun corridor have been carving out more adult-focused properties as demand for couples-oriented all-inclusive experiences grows. The strategy lets operators charge premium rates while reducing the operational complexity that comes with family programming.
Guests with existing reservations at Riu Palace Mexico during the closure period are being relocated to other Riu properties in the area. The September reopening date gives the hotel a full four months of construction time ahead of the peak winter booking season.
