Iberostar Hotels & Resorts is about to open its first property on the Adriatic Sea. The Iberostar Selection Montenegro, a 292-suite beachfront resort on Montenegro's southern coast, is set to welcome guests this summer — making it the only five-star hotel sitting directly on the sand along this stretch of coastline.

The property, located on the Bar Riviera, will feature eight dining venues, a 3,700-square-metre spa, direct beach access, and a small pier for arrivals by sea. Suites and villas open onto private terraces, and many come with personal plunge pools. For Iberostar, which has long been a fixture across the Caribbean, Mexico, and Mediterranean Spain, Montenegro represents a strategic push into southeastern Europe's fast-growing coastal tourism market.

A Cultural Touch

What sets this resort apart is its cultural concept. The entire guest experience is built around Montenegro's centuries-old olive-growing heritage, anchored by the Old Olive Tree of Bar — an ancient specimen believed to be more than 2,000 years old, standing just a few kilometres from the hotel. Through a collaboration with local brand Olcinium, that olive-oil tradition shows up across the resort's dining, spa treatments, and design elements.

The opening comes as Iberostar celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2026, a milestone the company is marking with an aggressive expansion year. Beyond Montenegro, Iberostar is also launching its first property in East Africa — the Iberostar Selection Zanzibar on Tanzania's Muyuni Beach — while major renovations are underway at its Waves-branded resorts in Mexico's Riviera Maya and at JOIA Rose Hall in Jamaica.
