This Jamaica Resort Is Reopening in December Under a New Name — After a Hurricane Forced It Shut

One of Jamaica's larger family all-inclusives is coming back with a new identity. The resort formerly known as Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica will reopen December 1 as Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica, following a top-to-bottom renovation that kept the property closed after Hurricane Melissa.

The refresh reflects a wider rebranding at Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, which has been sorting its properties into Luxury, Grand, and the new family-focused Explore tiers. The Jamaica resort sits in Runaway Bay, on the north coast of Jamaica, a stretch that has seen a wave of closures and reopenings over the past year as the island rebuilds its resort inventory.

Its adults-only neighbor tells part of the story. Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay, now marketed as an Escape property, already reopened on April 1 after its own renovation, which brought a redesigned lobby terrace and bar and fully refurbished restaurants. The family-oriented Explore property has taken longer, with a complete overhaul aimed at families booking winter and holiday travel.

The December 1 reopening puts the resort back on the market just ahead of Jamaica's peak season, when North American travelers head south for the holidays. For Bahia Principe, the timing matters: it returns two Runaway Bay resorts to inventory within the same year, one adults-only and one for families, giving the brand a paired offering on a coast where several competitors are still dark.
