Sandals Just Revealed What $200 Million Is Buying at Three Jamaica Resorts — Including a New Name for One of Them
Sandals unveiled the first look at its $200 million Jamaica overhaul, from new open-flame dining to a full rebrand of one flagship resort.
Sandals Resorts has pulled back the curtain on what its $200 million investment is actually delivering across three Jamaica properties — and one of them is getting an entirely new identity. The transformation, part of the brand's "Sandals 2.0" push, covers Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals South Coast, and Sandals Royal Caribbean, all timed to reopen ahead of the winter high season.
The headline change: Sandals Royal Caribbean is being renamed Sandals Caribbean Cay, a rebrand meant to lean into the resort's offshore private island rather than its old name. It's a rare move for a brand that has kept its resort names largely fixed for decades.
Guests will notice the redesign from the moment they arrive. The resorts are shifting to open-air check-in lobbies framed around panoramic ocean views, and the brand is introducing a double-queen room concept aimed at multigenerational families and groups of adults traveling together — a departure from its couples-only, king-bed template.
Dining is a major focus. Sandals Montego Bay is adding Buccan, a waterfront venue built around open-flame Jamaican cooking, and Scrimshaw, a coastal seafood restaurant with wraparound sea views.
The reopenings are staggered. Sandals South Coast returns first, on November 18, followed by both Montego Bay and the newly named Caribbean Cay on December 18. The timing lines up the refreshed trio for peak winter demand, as competition among Caribbean all-inclusives keeps intensifying and rival brands pour money into their own Jamaica properties.
