Potential Airplane Noise
Due to its close proximity to Sangster International Airport, occasional airplane noise can be heard, which might be a minor disturbance for some guests seeking absolute quiet.

The defining feature of Sandals Royal Caribbean is Sandals Cay — a private offshore island accessed by water taxi from the main resort. The island holds the Caribbean's first overwater bungalows, a secluded beach with a clothing-optional section, a Tahitian-style pool, and Royal Thai restaurant, which consistently draws the highest guest praise in the dining lineup. Getting to the island requires a short boat ride, and weather can occasionally affect access.
The main resort building dates to 1956 and has a genuine British colonial character — a physical patina that distinguishes it from newer all-inclusive properties built to a contemporary template. Renovations in 2016 and ongoing 2025 upgrades maintain the facilities, but the building is not modern. This suits guests who value atmosphere and history over a freshly constructed resort. The compact layout means amenities are within easy walking distance — a practical advantage over large-scale resorts where restaurant-to-room travel takes time.
The proximity to Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is 10–15 minutes — among the shortest transfers in the Sandals Jamaica portfolio. The airport proximity does introduce periodic aircraft noise, which some guests note and others don't find disruptive. The main beach has some rocky sections; the Sandals Cay beaches have calmer, cleaner sand.
Note: Sandals Royal Caribbean is currently closed for repairs following Hurricane Melissa, with the scheduled reopening on May 30, 2026. Verify current status before booking. The 'Stay at 1, Play at 2' program provides access to Sandals Montego Bay, effectively adding a second resort's worth of dining and amenities to the experience.
