Moon Palace Cancun is a large-format all-inclusive operating as three connected sections — Sunrise, Nizuc, and The Grand — spread across a beachfront property on Cancun's southern shore. Opened in 1996, with The Grand section built in 2017. The combined room count runs to approximately 2,404 rooms. Internal golf cart transportation connects the sections; wait times during peak periods can run long, and guests with early reservations should account for this.
The resort is 8 to 12 km from Cancun International Airport — a 10 to 20-minute transfer depending on traffic and which section you're staying in. For families who want a single large resort with activities that replace excursions, Moon Palace delivers: FlowRider Double Wave Simulator, ice skating rink, The Playroom Kids Club (ages 4+, open until 10 PM), a Wired Lounge for teens, and at The Grand section, a dedicated children's water park with slides and lazy river.
Guests in Sunrise and Nizuc can use reciprocity wristbands to access other Palace Resorts in Cancun (excluding Le Blanc Spa Resort). This is a meaningful benefit — it extends dining options across the brand portfolio without additional charge.
Two things to set realistic expectations on: the beach water is consistently described as dark and not swimming-quality — a practical limitation given the property's otherwise comprehensive offering. And the scale of the property means service consistency varies — some staff encounters are exceptional, others are not, across a property this size.
