Rating7.8The core of the Los Establos experience is the daily included tour program — one guided activity per night of stay, excluding arrival and departure days. With 13+ options, a week-long stay won't exhaust the menu. Most tours require signing up the previous evening; tell staff at dinner which tour you want the next day. Activities without advance signup include the pool, court sports, fitness, and the evening bar programs. Paid excursions add adventure options like white-water rafting on the Chiriquí Viejo River.
Outdoor pool with a cascading waterfall feature and jetted whirlpool section. Surrounded by mountain views rather than beach. Comfortable sun terrace with loungers. Modest in size relative to a conventional all-inclusive pool — at 17 rooms, it never gets crowded.
Not an on-site amenity — a full-day organized excursion to a private island beach at extra cost. A 1.5-hour drive plus a 30-minute boat ride from Boquete. Includes transport, drinks, and an island lunch cooked over a campfire. The trip is legitimate and popular but is an add-on, not included.
Included daily tour option. A scenic drive through the Chiriquí highlands with views of the valley and Volcán Barú. Good intro for guests arriving from a beach vacation who need context for the landscape.
Included. A walk through the adjacent 100-year-old Kotowa estate covering the full coffee production process from growing to roasting. Genuinely educational rather than a cursory tasting — the estate is one of the most respected in Panama.
Included. Boquete sits on a major migratory corridor and has resident species found nowhere else at lower elevations. The resort's birding guides know specific locations; serious birders should request this on multiple days and ask about resplendent quetzal sightings.
Included. A trail through cloud forest to a series of cascades. Moderately difficult — some uneven terrain and elevation gain. The effort is worth it; this is the most visually dramatic of the standard included tours.
Included. Natural thermal pools about a 45-minute drive from Boquete. A legitimate hot springs experience rather than a resort spa approximation — the water is geothermally heated and the setting is natural.
Included. Guided walks through Boquete town and surrounding areas. Good for slower-paced days or as an introduction to the region.
Included. Three miles of suspension bridges through the cloud forest above Boquete, with views of rivers, waterfalls, and forest canopy. Not for guests with significant fear of heights; everyone else finds it memorable.
Included. Traditional Panamanian cooking lessons with the resort kitchen staff. Good for evenings when outdoor weather doesn't cooperate.
Included. Bartender-led cocktail crafting sessions. Popular social activity, particularly the day before departure.
Included, no advance signup needed. Court access for self-organized play.
Included. Indoor community lounge. Available throughout the day without scheduling.
Included. Available in the common area throughout the day.
Included. Self-directed court access.
Included. Air-conditioned facility with cardio and weights.
Included sessions. Schedule varies — check with staff on arrival for current timing.
Included daily 4–6 PM. The social event of the day at a resort this size.
Included evening entertainment in the community lounge. More intimate than the karaoke at a 600-room resort.
Extra cost. Class IV rapids on the Chiriquí Viejo River, one of Panama's best whitewater runs. Includes lunch and transport. Book through the front desk.
Extra cost. A milder alternative to rafting on the Caldera River. Easier and faster than the rafting trip.
Extra cost. Full-day excursion to a private beach island — 1.5-hour drive plus a 30-minute boat. Includes drinks and a campfire-cooked island lunch. The one day-trip option that provides the beach experience this mountain resort lacks.
Extra cost. An educational tour covering bee biology and local beekeeping. Unusual enough to be genuinely interesting for guests who aren't expecting it.
Fees may apply. Available through a nearby provider — ask the front desk to arrange.
Fees apply. A course within 2 miles of the resort. The Chiriquí highlands have several courses with dramatic mountain backdrops.
Extra cost. Available at a nearby operator through the canopy above Boquete.
Fees may apply. Specialized natural history excursions beyond the included activity menu, arranged through the front desk.
