The oceanfront water park is what makes Hyatt Ziva Riviera Cancun worth choosing over similarly priced Cancun-area family all-inclusives. It's built directly on the Caribbean — not tucked behind a pool deck — and runs multiple slides for kids and adults, something most competitors in this corridor simply don't have. The resort opened in September 2021 after a full renovation of the former Secrets Silversands Riviera Maya, which means the infrastructure is relatively new: updated rooms, fresh finishes, and a two-story Zen Spa spanning over 16,000 square feet. The AAA Four Diamond designation is a legitimate quality indicator here.
This is the right call for families with kids of any age who want variety: the KidZ Club handles ages 4–12 with supervised programming, the @Moods Teen Lounge covers teenagers with gaming setups, and adults have a separate quiet pool near the spa. Couples without children who want a lower-key, quieter setting would do better at one of the adults-only properties further north in the Riviera Cancun corridor.
The honest drawback is the specialty restaurant system. With 6+ dinner restaurants and no advance reservation option for most of them, dinner crowds form early. Guests consistently report 30–45 minute waits at popular venues like Miyako and Rue de Rivoli, with no way to secure a spot ahead of time. The kitchen consistency at dinner has also drawn mixed reviews, with lunch getting notably higher marks across the board. If you're planning on specialty dinners every night, arrive at opening.

It sits in Puerto Morelos, about 25 km south of Cancun International Airport — roughly 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The beach sits on Bahia Petempich, a protected lagoon with calm, swimmable water but a narrow sand strip and periodic seaweed presence.
