Rating8.0The activity program at Cherating is stronger than the rooms. Rock climbing on natural formations (included, 11+), flying trapeze, sailing, kayaking, archery, tennis, yoga, treetop adventure course, and nature/jungle walks are all included. Cultural excursions — Batik painting, firefly watching, turtle sanctuary, mangrove cruise — are extra cost but among the most distinctive optional activities available at any Club Med. Surfing lessons are seasonal (November–February, extra cost). The Mini Club and Teen Club run on selected dates; confirm when booking.
Freshwater overflow pool with hot tub, deckchairs, and parasols. Suitable for all ages with adult supervision. The main social pool space during peak hours. Hot tub available separately.
Adults-only (18+) saltwater pool with panoramic views of the South China Sea. Zen Bar is adjacent. Quieter and less crowded than the main pool. The best pool on the property for guests who want calm and views over activity.
Located within the Mini Club Med facilities. Dedicated to younger guests. Safe and supervised environment for children.
Approximately 1 km of fine sand with deckchairs and showers. Beautiful to look at — not swimmable. Strong currents and a sharp underwater drop-off make this beach dangerous for swimming; the resort typically posts safety flags. Use it for walks and sunset views, not swimming.
400-yard golden sand beach, framed by rocks, adjacent to the Rembulan restaurant. Accessible by 10-minute jungle walk or 5-minute shuttle train. Deckchairs and showers available. Better for swimming than the main beach. Worth the journey for a quieter beach experience.
200-yard stretch dedicated to water sports (sailing, kayaking). Reached via the same jungle path or shuttle. Calmer wave conditions than the main beach, which is why water sports are operated here. Deckchairs and showers available.
Included. Group lessons and equipment available. Sea conditions at Cherating are variable — confirm with the water sports team on arrival.
Included. Equipment available at the beachfront. The calmer water near the resort is better suited for this than open-sea conditions.
Included. Equipment provided. Accessible to most skill levels.
Included. Courts and group lessons available.
Included. Group sessions with equipment.
Included. Group sessions, ages 11+. Natural rock formation climbing — not an artificial climbing wall. This is the feature that distinguishes Cherating from other Club Med Southeast Asia properties. Genuinely worth doing.
Included. Aerial challenge course at multiple difficulty levels. Good option for teens and active adults.
Included. Standard fitness equipment. Functional for maintaining a routine.
Included. Daily group sessions.
Included on selected dates. Ages 4–10. Check availability when booking — not available every week.
Included on selected dates. Ages 11–17. Sports, adventures, and evening activities. Confirm schedule at booking.
Included. G.O. performances with storytelling, music, dance, and acrobatics. Generally well-reviewed.
Included. Malaysian and Indian cooking demonstrations. Practical and culturally grounded, not just resort-branded entertainment.
Included. Guided walks through the 80-hectare jungle surrounding the resort. The jungle setting is what differentiates this property — the walks take full advantage of it.
Extra cost. Seasonal lessons November–February. The east coast of Malaysia faces the South China Sea swell during this period — reasonable surfing conditions for beginners.
Extra cost. Diving available, though visibility and conditions depend on season.
Extra cost. Ages 4–23 months. Sensory play and creative workshops.
Extra cost. Ages 2–3. Creative workshops and outdoor play.
Extra cost. Traditional Malaysian craft. One of the more culturally specific activities available — worth booking if arts and crafts are a priority.
Extra cost. Evening boat tour on the Cherating river to observe bioluminescent fireflies. Genuinely unusual — not something available at most resort destinations. Seasonal availability; confirm with the excursions desk.
Extra cost. Guided boat cruise through the mangrove ecosystem. Chance to see monitor lizards, hornbills, and other wildlife.
Extra cost. Seasonal — depends on turtle nesting/hatching schedule. Learning about conservation and potentially witnessing a release is a meaningful activity. Confirm seasonal availability.
Extra cost. Batik factory visit, historical landmarks, shopping.
