Two of Jamaica's Storm-Closed Resorts Are Reopening Within Days — Here's the Date
Nearly a year after Hurricane Melissa, a major Montego Bay resort and its adults-only sister property have a confirmed return date.
Two of Jamaica's shuttered all-inclusives are coming back online. Royalton Blue Waters Montego Bay and its adults-only sister, the Hideaway at Royalton Blue Waters, are both set to reopen on September 15 following months of repairs after Hurricane Melissa.
The reopening restores hundreds of rooms and roughly 1,200 jobs to Jamaica's north coast. Royalton says the delay — the dates were pushed back more than once — came down to safety checks covering structural integrity, guest areas and back-of-house systems before staff and visitors returned.
It is the latest step in a steady recovery for Royalton Hotels & Resorts on the island. Royalton Negril already welcomed guests back in late August, and the Blue Waters properties now follow. Guests holding reservations for dates before the reopening were offered penalty-free cancellations, rebooking or relocation to other Royalton properties, with a welcome amenity on arrival.
The timing matters for the wider destination. Jamaica's tourism board has been working to signal that the island is open for the peak winter season, and the return of well-known Montego Bay inventory helps close the gap left by storm closures. Several properties across the island remain offline, a reminder that the rebuild is uneven — but the reopening of two recognizable resorts within a single week is one of the clearer signs yet that Jamaica's all-inclusive corridor is coming back.
