A Landmark Pink-Sand Resort Beach Just Reopened Under a New Name — and You Don't Need a Room to Visit
The Palmetto Beach Club has opened below Bermuda's Fairmont Southampton, adding an infinity pool, private cabanas and day passes to one of the island's signature beaches.
One of Bermuda's most recognizable resort beaches is back under a new identity. The Palmetto Beach Club officially opened Aug. 13 on the island's South Shore, below the landmark Fairmont Southampton, bringing day passes, private cabanas, beach service and a new restaurant to a stretch of pink sand that has anchored the property for decades.
The club centers on the beach and an oceanfront infinity pool, with loungers, cabanas and food-and-beverage service through the day. The dining piece comes from The Grill, which serves lunch and dinner and stays open for cocktails as the sun drops over the South Shore. Guests can reserve the beach-and-pool day-pass experience, book a private cabana, or make a table reservation at the restaurant on its own.
The most notable part is who can go. You don't have to be checked into the hotel to reserve a day at Palmetto, a relative rarity in Bermuda, where many of the best resort beaches are reserved for overnight guests. That opens it up to cruise passengers, visitors staying elsewhere on the island, or anyone wanting a dedicated South Shore beach day.
Palmetto also doubles as the clearest sign yet of the Fairmont Southampton's continuing return. The sprawling pink resort has long been one of Bermuda's defining properties, known for its golf, restaurants and beach, and the beach club gives travelers an early look at the design and hospitality direction shaping its comeback.
