The Caribbean's Largest New Resort Is About to Open — With 2,171 Suites and a $1.5 Billion Price Tag
Moon Palace The Grand Punta Cana opens June 1 with twin 18-story towers, 19 restaurants, a Greg Norman golf course, and a pledge to run entirely on renewable energy by 2027.
Palace Resorts is about to open the biggest new resort the Caribbean has seen in years. Moon Palace The Grand Punta Cana will begin welcoming guests on June 1, 2026, with 2,171 suites spread across two 18-story oceanfront towers — a dramatic departure from the low-rise resorts that define the Punta Cana coastline.
The numbers behind the project are staggering. Backed by more than $1.5 billion in investment, the property features 19 restaurants, eight bars, nine outdoor pools, a full-scale water park, and what the company calls the largest spa in the Dominican Republic. An 18-hole Greg Norman Eco Signature golf course rounds out the amenities.
Two-thirds of the suites offer direct ocean views, and the resort claims the highest number of oceanfront accommodations in Dominican Republic history. The tower design allowed the developers to preserve over 228,000 square meters of natural vegetation on the grounds, including 400 meters of protected mangrove forest.
Perhaps the most ambitious commitment is environmental. From 2027 onward, the resort plans to run entirely on renewable energy — solar during the day, wind power at night — making it one of the few mega-resorts in the region to target full energy independence.
The opening adds to an already intense building boom in Punta Cana, where Lopesan, Marriott, and other operators are all expanding. For Palace Resorts, the project extends a portfolio that already includes Moon Palace Cancun and Moon Palace Jamaica.
